I often have answered questions on topics searching for tutorials, or help with using an application. My standard answer is usually if you use Jaws your answer is right on your computer. The problem with my answer is I never say how to find that answer.
To get to your Jaws training, or help section:
Open Jaws however you do it. On a desktop that is configured in the common way you press insert J, and Jaws opens. Next type the letter H. Jaws will say training. I you use your arrow keys up or down you will scroll through topics. For example, you want to learn keystrokes for something, so you arrow to keyboard commands. When you get to the place you want hit inter, than scroll to find what you are looking for. Jaws has a book of popular applications, so you can find things like Adobe reader, Outlook, Messenger, and that list is pretty good. You hit inter on the one you want, and then hit the F6 key to read it. Jaws instruct you to do this. Other screen reader users I am sorry I cannot help you with your help section, but I am sure you have one. Alt H seems to be the universal way to get help with screen readers, so try this. The manufacture should also have some instructional information you can read.
The help files in Jaws are not complete, meaning, you’ll not learn everything about a particular application or program, but they are a great source to start with, and Freedom Scientific offers much training resources on its website, www.freedomscientific.com.
Thanks for this information
Also from within an app that has help associated, you can press insert f1 twice quickly and get right to the topic.
Yes, a good thing, however the help you'll receive will be for that app, not for Jaws usability for that app. Thanks for posting that.
Not true. If you press f1 just once, you'll get help for the application, yes. But if you press f1 twice quickly, you'll get jaws specific help for that application, if jaws specific help for that particular application exists.
Oops, I meant insert f1. Sorry.
Ah. now your right. Lol Insert F1 does that trick, but F1 twice quickly gives help for the application, not Jaws help. Keep it coming and soon we'll have it all. Thanks.
insert f1 twice quickly gives jaws specific help though, not help as in the standard windows help, but oh well. I tried. right now, hold down insert and press f1 twice quickly and see what happens. Jaws specific help for your browser will come up, so yes, it's jaws help.
